It is an inflected language, i.e. grammatical forms are created by adding various suffixes to fixed stems. It uses postpositions, rather than prepositions, to express various case relationships.

There are two genders in Urdu: masculine and feminine. Urdu nouns can be singular and plural. There are three cases: direct, oblique and vocative.
